Known Issues
The following are Known Issues with Casterlabs-Caffeinated:
TikTok Issues
Section titled “TikTok Issues”There are currently some issues with TikTok’s API which may cause connection issues for some users.
This is caused by TikTok blocking Casterlabs servers from accessing their API.
We can now detect when this happens and will show a warning in the app/dock when it does.
Connection Delay
Section titled “Connection Delay”Due to TikTok’s API limitations, Caffeinated may take up to 10 minutes to connect to TikTok livestreams. This is because TikTok limits how often third-party applications can check for new streams.
Missed Messages
Section titled “Missed Messages”Due to to TikTok’s quality filter and privacy settings, Caffeinated may miss messages from certain users. This is because TikTok does not send message events for ~10% of users to third-party applications, and unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about this.
The solution is for us to use cookies for a logged in account when we read chat (which would get that account banned, causing this issue to be a problem again).
We are currently exploring options to mitigate this issue, but there is no guaranteed solution at this time.
No TikTok Messages Coming Through
Section titled “No TikTok Messages Coming Through”If you find that no TkTok messages are coming through at all, this could be due to your Stream being marked as 18+. We are unable to connect to TikTok streams that are marked as such.
Kick Issues
Section titled “Kick Issues”Cannot Delete Messages
Section titled “Cannot Delete Messages”Due to limitations in Kick’s API, Caffeinated is currently unable to delete messages in Kick chats.
YouTube Issues
Section titled “YouTube Issues”Connection Delay
Section titled “Connection Delay”Caffeinated only checks for new YouTube streams every 5 minutes. This results in the app missing some chat messages at the start of livestreams.
- There is no fix as this is intended behavior due to the limitations of YouTube’s API Quota system.
Caffeinated Issues
Section titled “Caffeinated Issues”App Stuck Off Screen
Section titled “App Stuck Off Screen”Sometimes when starting the app, it may get stuck off screen. This manifests as the app being in the taskbar but not appearing on-screen.
- Open Task Manager and kill Caffeinated.
- Open
%appdata%\casterlabs-caffeinated\preferencesin File Explorer and then delete the file calledwindow.json.
Once you do that, relaunch the app and it’ll appear on-screen again.
Make Messages Disppear Delay
Section titled “Make Messages Disppear Delay”Some users may experience a delay with the Make Messages Disappear option for their on-screen chat widgets.
This is caused by your PC’s system clock being out of sync.
- Press + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type “control” and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
- Select Clock and Region.
- Click on Date and Time.
- In the Date and Time window, go to the Internet Time tab.
- Click on Change settings.
- Check the box for Synchronize with an Internet time server.
- Choose a server (e.g., time.windows.com) and click Update now.
Manual Synchronization
Section titled “Manual Synchronization”If automatic synchronization fails, you can manually sync the time:
- Open the Date and Time settings as described above.
- In the Internet Time tab, click Change settings.
- Click Update now to manually sync.
- Open Settings by pressing + I.
- Navigate to Time & Language > Date & Time.
- Ensure the Set time automatically toggle is turned on.
Sync Now:
- Scroll down and look for the “Sync now” button under the “Additional date, time & regional settings” section. Click on it to force a synchronization.
Caffeinated Updater
Section titled “Caffeinated Updater”There is a bug in the updater which causes it to not update itself properly. This manifests as the app immediately closing or crashing on launch. Usually it says “Checking for updates” then “Downloading installer” before closing but sometimes it will not.
- Reinstalling the app from the website will fix the issue.
Ding on new Message
Section titled “Ding on new Message”Some users have reported that the “Ding” sound for new messages does not work. This affects only the Chat Dock. It will work as intended from the main Dashboard in the app.
